Course

For current course information see the strapline below the picture at the top of the page.

If there is an overnight frost then temporary restrictions will apply as described below unless specified otherwise.

Where the course is closed it will be reviewed on an hourly basis up to midday.  If we are not open then we will generally close for the day & review at 7am the following morning.

Enjoy your golf.

Frost Policy

We never use temporary greens regardless of frost conditions and only have one temporary tee on the 10th.  Occasionally we will use one on the 4th tee if it has been particularly wet.

However, when there is a white frost on the leaves of the grass we will withdraw the use of all trolleys until it has lifted.  This can mean that we will have a trolley restriction in the morning that is lifted for the afternoon.  For this reason it is always advisable to call the Office on 023 8076 9272 or Pro's Shop on 023 8076 8397 and check.

Footwear

Soft spikes may slip on hard, wet or inclined surfaces.  If you choose to wear soft spikes you do so at your own risk.  Wearers of metal spikes should ensure that they are in good repair and not heavily worn.

Adders

During spells of hot weather the adders on the course will come out to sunbathe on the south facing slopes or stones.  As cold blooded creatures this is one of the ways that they can heat themselves up.

However they are shy creatures and will normally slide away long before you get close to them.  They will also only attack if they are threatened, so if you don't corner them (or tread on them in the rough!) they are not a danger.

Please do not take your 9 iron to them if you see one because they are a protected species.

In the event that you are bitten please leave the course immediately and get yourself taken to Southampton General A&E (do not drive yourself) unless you are feeling/looking ill in which case an ambulance will be called.  Ideally the affected part should be immobilised and then using the mobile phone, that you are carrying for emergencies only, contact the Club for help in getting you off the course.

Deer Ticks

During the summer deer ticks can be found in the rough.  They attach themselves to bare flesh and as such only tend to be a problem if you are wearing shorts and short socks.  If you are concerned, please wear long trousers.  These ticks can carry Lyme's Disease, so if you find that you have one please visit your GP.  The symptoms of Lyme's Disease are detailed here and it is easily treated with antibiotics.
